Cry Baby
Dear Dr. K.,
My 2 1/2 yr old son keeps crying every time I drive him to Parent’s Morning Out (Pre-Pre-School). I’ve tried to turn the music up really loud to encourage him to stop, but I’m thinking maybe he just doesn’t like Rush, even though they are making a 4th decade comeback. “Spirit of Radio”? Who can’t like that song! Come on now!

Bytor,
That’s so interesting that you have the same problem as so many other parents out there. Have you ever had a dog? If not, I’ll tell you that when you put a dog in the car, they can pick up on when they are going to the vet. And when they know they are going to the vet, they get very upset. I usually open the window wide enough for the dog to stick their head out the window because they love the air hitting their face and that takes their minds off going to the vet.
Funny enough this works great for kids too. Open the window just wide enough to stick their heads out there and then close the window just enough so it stays out there (not too tight though). Then you can enjoy whatever music you like and they get to have the wind in their face. As an added bonus, if they cry, you won’t hear them.
Happy parenting,
Dr. K.
