What’s for Lunch?

Subject: Break the Dirty Habit

There’s more to think about than what you are going to eat at your desk for lunch. I do it, too. And while my intentions are just to get the hunger out while catching up on some work, eventually I can’t help but feel that I am entitled to a break. So my focus goes from work to food to work to food to internet to food to sports scores to highlight films to latest headlines to gossip to anything but work and food.

So there I am at lunch, chewing and surfing away. And behind me a manager walks by and sees sports headlines and highlight clips from Sunday’s big games. Imagine what they are going to think. Do they know I’m at lunch? And do they really want me spending every minute of my day at my desk anyway?

Lunch at your desk

It’s pretty much like this: the more elegant your lunch is, the better job you have.

If you have the three-martini lunch you are pretty much at the top of your game, and the top of your company.  In fact, you are probably not even sure what your company does anymore.  It may be your company, and the concept behind it is/was yours to start with, but if you’ve got time to take three martinis, and hell, if you’ve even got time to HAVE lunch, you are probably so far detached from the day-to-day operations that you could not even explain what are the day-to-day operations.
